Does Alliciante sell anything other than 14k gold?
No, with a singular focus on 14k gold, Alliciante offers a simplified choice without the confusion of multiple sub-par metal types. We are exclusively dedicated to exquisite fine jewelry made only from 14k gold.
This means that our customers never have to worry about accidentally buying plated, filled, vermeil, and lower-karat gold jewelry which is only a thin gold layer.
What is the difference between plated jewelry, vermeil gold, gold filled jewelry
Understanding the difference between plated gold, filled gold, and vermeil gold is important when you’re shopping for jewelry.
Plated Jewelry: Plated gold jewelry is made by applying a very thin layer of gold over a base metal like brass. Typically, this layer can be anywhere between 0.5 microns to 2.5 microns thick. For context, the average human hair is 50 times thicker than the average gold plating.
As a result, plated jewelry is generally the least durable option among the three. Over time and with regular wear, the plating can wear off, revealing the base metal underneath.
Despite only having a microscopic amount of gold, plated jewelry is still very expensive when compared to solid gold jewelry, making it a very poor investment.
Vermeil Jewelry: Vermeil is a regulated industry term referring to jewelry that is made from a base of sterling silver that is then plated with a layer of gold. The gold layer must be at least 2.5 microns thick and have a minimum karat purity of 10k. While a step up in quality and durability compared to plated jewelry, vermeil is still very expensive and priced closely to solid gold jewelry.
Filled Jewelry: Filled gold jewelry has a thick layer of gold (typically 14k or 18k) that is mechanically bonded to a base metal core, usually jeweler's brass. The “filled” name comes from this brass metal core.
The gold content in filled jewelry must be at least 1/20th (5%) of the item's total weight. This is different from hollow gold jewelry which is pure gold (does not have a different metal core).
Can I wear Alliciante jewelry every day?
Yes, Alliciante's 14-karat gold jewelry is designed to be comfortably worn all day, every day. The only exceptions are pieces with delicate gemstones, pearls, and intricate designs which may require more careful handling.
Other than that, you never have to worry about your 14k gold jewelry. You can swim, shower, exercise, and sleep peacefully — knowing that Alliciante jewelry is made with the highest quality 14k gold.
How do I take care of solid 14k gold jewelry?
Yes! All Alliciante pieces are cast from 100% 14-karat gold, making them highly resistant to tarnish and safe for everyday wear, including during showers and workouts. Exercising and bathing are not a problem at all for the majority of our jewelry.
However, we do recommend taking extra precautions with jewelry that with gemstones, pearls, and intricate designs (like our Herringbone chains). Over time, sweat can cause grime to build up on the gold jewelry and hide its original shine. This can be easily fixed with a professional cleaning service.
